Kleenall RD - Rotary Drum Chip Filter

The RD - Rotary Drum Chip Filter Operation is a simple, self-cleaning design that can handle a heavy influx of chips while simultaneously delivering a continuous flow of clean coolant. This Kleenall filter makes chip removal and coolant filtration an amazingly simple and maintenance-free operation. It can handle a heavy influx of chips while simultaneously providing a continuous flow of clean coolant. And it’s self cleaning, requiring no interruption of service for cycling or replacing media.

How it works. Dirty coolant and chips from the machining center are gravity fed through flumes, often with the help of augers, into the chip filter inlet.

Heavy chips settle to the bottom of the tank and are immediatley conveyed forward and raked up the inclined side of the tank by a conveyor, which consists of a series of chain-driven angle bars. Chips then are discharged through an opening into a chip cart or hopper positioned beneath the opening.

At the same time, coolant is filtered through one or more continuously turning drums near the bottom of the tank, rotated by the same chains driving the conveyor.A permanent filter belt encompasses the drum’s outer diameter, and serves  as the filtering media.

Fine particles are trapped in this belt. As the drum rotates, spray nozzles inside the drum continuously backwash the rotating belt with coolant pumped from the clean coolant tank. These particles accumulate and are carried away by the conveyor in the form of sludge.
Once filtered, the clean coolant flows by gravity to the clean coolant tank for pumping back to the machine tool.

Gravity Flow Systems Features:

  • No Complex seal to maintain
  • No down time for indexing
  • Easily modified yet consistent filtration quality
  • Easier to maintain than vacuum or pressure systems

Permanent Media Features:

  • Media with mesh nylon for nominal 20 to 50 micron
  • Does not plug up like wedgewire
  • Belt is easily replaced
  • Broken and clogged media dectection
  • 2-year warranty
